What makes us different from other contractors?

"We don't cut corners, we cut hedges"

What makes us different? Reliability

We operate a larger team than your average solo gardener, which means that we can provide a level of reliability that most gardeners cannot.

If we have a team member ill, another can step in. If we have a tool go down, we have another to replace it with while it gets repaired. If we have an issue that is beyond one of our team, we will have another than can solve the problem. We are supported by a fantastic and friendly administrator, and managers that take care of all our health and safety requirements.

Cheaper gardeners might be good for the moment, but they don't have the reliability that we can provide as standard.

Plus, our hedges look better 😜

What makes us different? We are a Not-For-Profit

We are a 'Community Interest Company' (CIC) that is registered with Companies House (Company No. 10611847).

As a CIC we are led by a team of Directors and any profits we make are either reinvested back into the business to help us grow and provide even better services, or to directly benefit our local communities by providing opportunities to support unemployed people back into work, to support residents on the verge of eviction due to overgrown gardens, and to transform underused green spaces for the benefit of the community.

None of our team can receive dividends or bonuses, which means that when you see us working, we are working and grafting with a heart and a passion to make a difference in the community and not to line our pockets.

We're a different breed of gardener.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at gardenservices@green-space.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

From the boot of a car to a fleet of vehicles, we have grown as the classic start up with a powerful story to tell.

Since 2009 our Founder and CEO has shaped gardening projects to empower the unemployed and support residents struggling with overgrown gardens, while building an experienced and talented team to provide garden services along the way.

It's from being in the shoes of the people we're serving that we have developed our garden services work from the ground up. We have learned to put the needs of our customers first and have always kept a friendly, fun and professional approach to our work.

Over the last 7 years, we have grown our model and have worked with a range of larger organisations such as housing associations, councils, property developers, local businesses, churches, charities and other not-for-profit organisations. All the while we have still kept things local by providing the majority of our gardening for local residents who need a gardener they can rely on and trust to do a great job.

We are a different breed of gardener.

We often say, "we don't cut corners, we cut hedges".

We operate a larger team than most solo gardeners, which means that we can provide a level of reliability that most gardeners cannot.

Not only that, we support our local community through projects that we make free of charge to those in the most need.

We are also well trained and fully insured, providing peace of mind and great customer satisfaction when they see the difference we make, and the manner in which we do it.

Cheaper gardeners might be good for the moment, but they don't have the reliability that we can provide as standard.

Plus, our hedges look better 😜

The more regular and reliable you are as a customer to us, the better the deal we can offer you.

You can pay for our services in a variety of ways.

You have options to pay with:

  • Card directly from your invoice using Stripe
  • Card over the phone with our administrator, Julie
  • Bank transfer
  • Standing Order
  • Cash or cheque (and to receive a receipt for proof of purchase).

We normally ask for payment after the work is completed and will be payable within 7 days.

Our busiest times of the year are usually between May-September.

We find that there is often a surge of requests for first cuts of the year around April-May, and if there has been a lot of rain and sun during the Summer months, we will often work longer days to meet demand.

The Winter time for us is the quietest period of the year, and during this time we love to put special offers out to customers for big jobs they might not be able to afford during the Summer.

We love to create employment opportunities for the talented volunteers we train, enabling us to expand our services and meet demand when new opportunities and contracts become available.

Our garden services teams for both businesses and customers are primarily made up of experienced, paid employees. Only the best for our contracted work.

Occasionally we do like to provide experience and opportunities for volunteers to practice their skills and build their confidence while working for a paying customer.

When we do this, we always choose our volunteers carefully and treat them like paid employees, even if they are volunteering their time.

We often provide free of charge training for volunteers seeking employment, which means that if they support a garden services job that would normally pay them as a worker, this income instead goes back into helping to cover the cost of their training and to support them in classroom environments while they build their knowledge and skills.

As soon as they are ready to fly solo by completing their training, and we have paid work we can offer them, we will take them on as employees, and we have seen from experience of doing this many times over that they soon become the most passionate and talented gardeners, doing what they love and grateful for the opportunities they have received - all they want to do is give back and give their best (welcome to our team of gardeners - each one of us have been through this process).

We primarily focus on garden services work and regular garden/grounds maintenance.

We are well equipped to complete a wide range of 'soft' landscaping tasks such as:

  • Turf laying
  • Turf cutting
  • Weed membrane installation
  • Application of bark, stone, gravel, etc.

We tend not to take on jobs that require 'garden design' or 'hard landscaping' involving laying patios, artificial turf, driveways or decking.

However if a hard-landscaping task was required as part of a grounds maintenance contract, then we would consider this and welcome the opportunity.

We have experienced team members that have a wealth of experience in these areas, however jobs like this can be very time consuming, and we wouldn't want to miss out on the regular grass cuts for some of our vulnerable customers if we get lost in a landscaping job.

During the Winter months we are always open to receive enquiries for landscaping jobs, as our regular maintenance work slows down at this time of year.
